On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the camp, a full version of the documentary material related to the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp was released in 2005.
The film contains all the film footage shot by Soviet cameramen after the liberation of Auschwitz on 27 January 1945. They show, among other things, the camp area immediately after the entry of soldiers of the 1st Ukrainian Front of the Red Army, liberated prisoners, bodies of victims, Soviets collecting evidence of Nazi crimes.
Excerpts from the film were used as evidence during the Nuremberg trials against Nazi war criminals. The documentary footage is interspersed with an interview with Alexander Vorontsov, the Soviet cameraman accompanying the Red Army soldiers and author of most of the shots. The whole is accompanied by a commentary describing, among other things, the selection and extermination process, medical experiments and the daily life of the prisoners at Auschwitz concentration camp.
This film, directed by Irmgard von zur Mühlen, was originally released in 1985 to mark the 40th anniversary of the liberation of the camp.
