Auschwitz - Experiences of Camp Prisioner - permanent exibition catalog
Description
The publication expands on the topics presented in the permanent exhibition in blocks 8 and 9 on the grounds of the former Auschwitz I camp.
It shows the shock experienced by prisoners in the first days of their stay in the camp and the registration procedures they were subjected to: confiscation of personal belongings, humiliating shaving and “bathing,” allocation of clothing, assignment of numbers and markings, photographing, and finally tattooing.
Much space is also devoted to showing the brutal everyday life of the camp—the constant struggle for survival in conditions of extreme fatigue, hunger, cold, and fear, in an atmosphere of hopelessness and constant contact with the death of fellow prisoners.
